Welcome to the KES Media Center!

The Kilpatrick Elementary Media Center is a place to read, discover, create, and learn! Our goal is to encourage a love of reading while helping students become confident, curious, and responsible users of information and technology.

The Mission Statement

The mission of Kilpatrick media center is to provide students with the opportunity to become not only lifelong users of information but also creators of information. The media center will support the curriculum by collaborating with teachers, developing a collection that is representative of the community, and implementing literacy instruction for students. The program also will emphasize the value of reading for pleasure and the appreciation and enjoyment of literature.

Accelerated Reader encourages students to read and grow! Students read books, take comprehension quizzes, and earn points as they work toward their individual reading goals. Students can access AR through ClassLink.

myON gives students access to a wide variety of digital books anytime, anywhere. Students can explore books based on their interests and reading levels while building strong reading skills. Students can access myON through ClassLink

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is a reading competition that challenges students to read selected books and work as a team to answer questions about what they’ve read. It’s a fun way to promote reading, teamwork, and friendly competition!

CCPS Helen Ruffin Picturebook Reading Bowl

(Grades K-3)

The K–3 Picture Book Reading Bowl challenges students to read 20 picture books and compete as a team by answering questions about the books.

This competition encourages students to read award-nominated books selected by committees within Georgia. The team as a whole will perform best if the team reads all books. However, each child is not required to read all books. During the competition, students use hand-held buzzers to respond to questions about the books.

CCPS Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

(Grades 4-5)

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl challenges students in grades 4-5 to read 10 selected chapter books and compete as a team by answering detailed questions about the books. The program encourages reading comprehension, teamwork, and friendly competition
